A 2016 study published in The Astrophysical Journal and led by Christopher Conselice of the University of Nottingham used 20 years of Hubble images to estimate that the observable universe contains at least two trillion (2×1012) galaxies.
The big bang is how astronomers explain the way the universe began. It is the idea that the universe began as just a single point, then expanded and stretched to grow as large as it is right now—and it is still stretching!
